Who am I?

My name is Meriza and I reside in the picturesque Robertson Wine Valley, in the Western Cape, South Africa. The Robertson Wine Valley is one of the most beautiful regions and one of the largest wine-producing areas, generating around 27% of the country’s wines. The Robertson Wine Valley boasts lush vineyards and peach and apricot orchards as far as the eye can see, against the backdrop of the majestic Langeberg mountain range.

I’m a storyteller. I tell stories with words and with pictures. But mostly, with words. I’m also a novice wine taster (and drinker) and this blog will document my tasting experiences. This blog is also for you if you’re interested in discovering new online DIY tips for everyday use. A bit of an odd mix, I know… and your point is?? I’m an ex-journalist and a serial photographer- / blogger- and creative-in-the-making… I’m also the owner and founder of Afro-Icon Media.

I love all things pretty and try to capture it, one picture at a time. I invite you to follow me on my journey of discovery…

Ps. Wine reviews are posted every Thursday while Online DIY tips are posted on Mondays. So look out for it on those days.

P.P.S. Thanks to everyone who has supported me on this crazy journey of mine. It really means the world to me.

  1. We’re thrilled that you found our blog, Oh, the Places We See. Thanks for following! We visited South Africa about a month ago, but the only wine region we visited was Stellenbosch. Absolutely lovely country. We were introduced to Pinotage — had never even hear of that variety. We look forward to reading more of your posts to see what you recommend both in wines and in marketing. Best wishes for continued success. http://ohtheplaceswesee.com

    • Thanks for stopping by Bert and Rusha! I saw your posts on lovely South Africa. The Langeberg region is less than an hour’s drive from Stellenbosch / Franschoek and very similar in beauty and equally great wines. The Pinotage is also one of my favourite varieties. We hope to see you guys soon in SA again. Have a lovely day!

      • In my humble opinion, nothing comes close to French wines. Many of the best wines do not show up as they are smaller local productions and the locals buy them up. Like most, I have my favourites one here in my village and another very close by. When I have a visitor, I often include a stop or two at some of the local caves.

      • Hi Lea, I’ve sadly never had the privilege to taste French wines but I’m sure they’re absolutely delicious. You have earned your bragging rights, ha! Thanks again for commenting. I look forward to tasting French wines someday and I’ll make a point to revert back to you. Promise. Have a lovely day.
